An Giang: Launching a project to support female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers in the shrimp and rice value chain

On the morning of August 22, 2023, the Project Management Board of "Promoting access to social security and better working conditions for female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers in the shrimp and rice value chain” in An Giang province held a project kick-off workshop.

An overview of the workshop |
The overall objective of the project is that by 2026, there will be 16,800 female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers in the shrimp and rice value chain in 05 participating provinces. In particular, An Giang will have to mobilize 3,360 female farmers to participate in the prokect.
At the workshop, the participants discussed some related issues such as: The role of the Farmers' Union in implementing social security and welfare policies for farmers, members in the province, coordination programs with Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VNFU) at the central level; dissemination of policies and laws on voluntary social insurance and household health insurance. Moreover, 2 presentations were presented at the workshop incuding: The impact of climate change on social security in the agricultural sector and rural women in the province; Labor safety and gender equality in the agricultural sector.
VNFU Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation coordinates with Oxfam in Vietnam to implement the project "Promoting access to social security and better working conditions for female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers in the shrimp and rice value chain in Vietnam" in the period of 2022 - 2026 in 05 provinces including An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Soc Trang. It will help 16,800 female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers to get benefits in the shrimp and rice value chain in the Mekong Delta.
