VNFU is officially a member of the World Farmers Organization-WFO
At the invitation of the World Farmers Organization (WFO), from June 7 to 10, 2022, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh, Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the VNFU attended the Congress of WFO. At the Congress, VNFU officially became a member of WFO.
Attending the Congress of the World Farmers Organization-WFO, there were more than 300 delegates representing farmer organizations from 52 countries around the world, representatives of international organizations, businesses, scientists...
During the working days, delegates focused on discussing and evaluating the achieved results, limitations and causes; assessment of the role of farmer organizations, cooperatives, women, rural youth and also technology, innovation and creativity; new member admission...
In the Congress, the Board of Directors for the term 2022 – 2024 was also elected; amend and supplement the Charter; approving the 2021 budget settlement, approving the 2022 and 2023 budget estimates; agreed on the venue for the 2023 Congress.
The World Farmers Congress-WFO affirmed that despite many difficulties due to Covid-19 pandemic, conflicts and economic shocks, as well as climate change, causing supply chains discruption which lead to food insecurity, poverty and malnutrition, exacerbating inequalities; farmers around the world persist, innovate, and continue to work hard to produce food contributing to ensuring global food security sustainable.
The Congress affirmed that farmers, farmers' organizations and cooperatives, including rural women and youth, play a pivotal role in the rural economy. While science, technology, innovation and creativity are the driving force for the transformation of the global food system, a tool to improve production efficiency in a sustainable way. In addition, rural women and youth need to have full and equitable access to resources and development opportunities to reach their full potential and worth their role and ability in the global food system.
At the Congress, VNFU was officially recognized as a member of WFO along with farmer organizations from South Africa, Australia, Uganda. Additionally, farmers' organizations from Italy and Georgia were recognized as associate members.

Thus, WFO has 76 members from 52 countries around the world up to now. The Congress announced to strengthen innovation in content and operation methods in the coming time to attract, admit more members, affirming as the world's largest Farmers' Organization.
At the Congress a new Leadership Board was elected, consisting of the President, a Vice President and 6 members of the Executive Council who are representatives of member organizations in 6 regions. Mr. Arnold Puech d'Alissac, French Farmers' Association (FNSEA), representative of the European region, was elected as WFO President, Mrs. Katrina Sarah Milne, New Zealand Farmers Union (FedFarm), as WFO Executive Council member, Oceania region representative elected as WFO Vice Chairman for the term 2022 - 2024.
The General Meeting approved the amended and supplemented Charter; approved the 2021 budget settlement, the 2022 and 2023 budget estimates. The Congress approved policies on capacity improvement and empowerment of rural women; program on rural youth; policies on enhancing the role of cooperatives in agricultural sustainable development and the food system; policies on promoting research, application of science and technology, innovation for sustainable and effective agricultural development. The Congress unanimously selected South Africa as the venue for the 2023 Congress.

Within the framework of program at the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh, Vice Chairman of VNFU visited and had a meeting with the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh informed about the results of the World Farmers' Union Congress (WFO), the situation of agriculture, farmers, rural areas and key activities of the VNFU.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Hungary - Nguyen Thi Bich Thao congratulated the VNFU on becoming an official member of the World Farmers Organization (WFO). The Ambassador shared about the socio-economic situation, especially the agricultural development of European countries in general, of Hungary in particular, the interest of European businesses in the field of agriculture and agricultural products of Vietnam.
The Ambassador affirmed her willingness to share and provide information about the organization and activities of the VNFU, Vietnamese agricultural products and goods with European friends and partners to contribute to promoting investment in agricultural field of Vietnam and to expand the export market of agricultural products for Vietnamese farmers.
