A delegate of Vietnam Farmers' Union attended the event of Asian Farmers' Association for Sustainable Rural Development in Thailand
Attending the Conference were nearly 40 delegates, representing 24 organizations that are member organizations of the Asian Farmers' Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), NGOs, local people's organizations, etc. from 13 Asian countries. The conference was co-organized by the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) and the Southeast Asian Regional Initiative for Community Empowerment (SEARICE).
The conference provided participants with a general understanding of the basic principles and key components of agroecology. At the Conference, the climate-resilient approaches in farms, forestry and fisheries is a common policy advocacy goal of organizations embracing agroecology. The conference also introduced provisions relating to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP) and the United Nations Decade on Family Farming (UNDFF). Experts shared the process of advocating to protect farmers' rights with respect to relevant international treaties and conventions such as the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the Convention on Biological Diversity, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change…
At the same time, the Conference discussed about action plans and advocacy at international events such as the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change; The 15th United Nations Conference on Biodiversity. The aim of the Conference is to develop a policy advocacy strategy to help household farmers benefit more in the food system and in agroecology. Family farmers who produce food nearly 80% of the world's food need more support, especially in improving production and business capacity so that they can enhance the position of farmers and benefit more in the food system and agroecology.
As a member organization of AFA, the delegate of Vietnam Farmers' Union actively contributed ideas, exchanged and shared about the Party's guidelines and policies, our State's policies to support farmers, good practices and effective models, especially models of the application of climate-adaptive and environmentally friendly agro-forestry methods that VNFU is supporting...
Vietnamese delegates also included representatives from the Center for Community Capacity Building and Rural Development and the Consultative Institute for Socio-Economic Development of Rural and Mountainous Areas. |
