Chairman of Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VNFU), Dr. Thao Xuan Sung: On-the-job training to help farmers do business
Mr Giang A Cau – Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial Farmers’ Union said that in the first 8 months of 2018, levels of the Provincial FU have held nearly 1,800 propaganda sessions to over 56,000 staff, members and farmers about the Party and the State’s directions, policies and laws. Farmers’ movement emulating good production, business, solidarity to help each other enrich and reduce poverty is strengthened.

“Levels of the Union has organized more than 600 technical training, vocational training for nearly 36,000 members, farmers. Along with that, staff, members and farmers in the province actively contributed to support the movement to build new-style countryside, repaired and upgraded inter-village roads and in-field canals.” – said Mr Cau.
At the meeting, the leaders of Yen Bai Provincial FU proposed VNFU to create favourable conditions for Provincial FU to participate in pilot models of economic development in the field of agriculture and forestry, especially supporting the model of mulberry and silkworm raising in Tran Yen district; form cooperative groups, develop collective economic models.

Vocational training and support for farmers
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Thao Xuan Sung sympathized with the difficulties, loss and damage that people in Yen Bai province suffered due to natural disasters. Dr. Thao Xuan Sung also highly appreciated the achievements of Provincial FU at all levels and suggested Yen Bai provincial FU continue to diversify the forms of propaganda, delivery the Party and the State’s directions, policies and laws to the peoples.
Also at the meeting, Dr. Thao Xuan Sung suggested that Yen Bai Provincial Farmers’ Union should provide additional funding to continue investing in equipment to improve the infrastructure, improve the quality of operation of Supporting Centre for Farmers; study and formulate the typical agricultural product introduction zones; ask VNFU to continue to support the Provincial FU to implement models of economic development in the field of agriculture and forestry, building cooperative groups, developing collective economic models and building new-style countryside.
On the same day, Dr. Thao Xuan Sung also visited Yen Bai Provincial Supporting Centre for Farmers. He said that after renaming Centre for Vocational Training and Farmer Support into Supporting Centre for Farmers, the Provincial FU needed to innovate its operations and operate the Centre effectively.
“When it comes to operations, the Supporting Centre for Farmers must avoid thinking of operating under the State administrative apparatus but having to innovate it as an enterprise. This unit has to do many tasks not only to attract and train farmers but also to do many services to increase income.” – Said Dr. Thao Xuan Sung.
Dr. Thao Xuan Sung suggested that the leaders of Yen Bai Provincial Farmers’ Union should actively study the good examples of adjacent provinces, there by finding out plants and animals which are suitable with the soil, climate, terrain of the province, localise them and guide the local farmers to improve their wealth.
“We need innovate the propaganda and guide farmers through programs, projects under “on-the-job training” method so that people can easily understand and follow. Especially, the Provincial FU toned to organize preliminary, summing up, evaluation of models, commend and reward typical groups and individuals to encourage members to actively emulate production and business.” – Dr. Thao Xuan Sung emphasized.
