Google Project: Farmers can use computers fluently, learn good things

On January 17, in Hanoi, Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VNFU) held a summing-up Workshop to evaluate the project “Enhancing computer, smartphone and internet skills for VNFU officials and members” in the period of 2017 - 2019 (Google project). VNFU’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Xuan Dinh attended and chaired the workshop.  

Support farmers to master the Internet
Speaking at the workshop, VNFU Vice Chairman Nguyen Xuan Dinh affirmed: “In order to develop sustainable high-tech agriculture, it is essential to invest in training for farmers to use computers, Smartphones and the internet, especially in the context of globalization along with the digital revolution. With such a meaning, VNFU has cooperated with Google – The Alphabet Group to build a project "Enhancing computer, smartphone and Internet skills for VNFU officials and members".

Reporting the results of the project, Mr. Mai Bac My – Vice Director in charge of International Cooperation Department, VNFU said: Project “Enhancing computer, smartphone and internet skills for VNFU officials and members” in the period of 2017 - 2019 have been implemented in 9 provinces and divided into 2 components. In component 1 "Improving awareness, knowledge and basic skills on using computers, smartphones and internet for VNFU officials and members".

The Google Project organized 145 training courses on using computer, smartphone and internet for over 4,100 people at grassroot levels, and proceeded knowledge sharing to 1,919 other members. Participants include local leaders, officials of Farmers’ Union at commune and district levels, members of cooperative groups, cooperatives ...

In Component 2 "Promoting access and sharing of information, knowledge and experience in the use of computers, smartphones and the Internet, as well as in business and life", the project has set up 164 offline clubs with nearly 4,000 members, 163 online clubs with nearly 3,000 members.

The project also organized 9 provincial workshops, 5 central workshops to share experiences on using computers, smartphones and internet with officials, members, farmers. At the workshop, the delegates focused on evaluating the project results, discussed the difficulties in the implementation process, proposed solutions for implementation in the coming time, especially with a focus on replication of the use of computers, smartphones and internet for farmers' members.

Within the framework of the project, some field visits have been organized for 60 participants to learn experience about 4.0 technology application in production and sale of agri-products including visit to Vineco - Tam Dao Farm in Vinh Phuc province; aquaponic vegetables and orchid model in Dalat city, Lam Dong province. Notably, after participating in project activities, farmer members have effectively built up and upgraded 140 economic models.

Fanpages created to sell agro-products
In Bac Giang province, after participating in project activities, many farmer members can actively create their fanpages on Facebook, Zalo apps to introduce and advertise agro-products with an aim to seek outputs. Typical models name as pig breeding farm of Mr. Hoang Dinh Que at Yen Dung district, fruit tree garden at Luc Ngan district. Besides, other farmer members can apply technologies to adjust temperature, humidity for plants such as model of flower, asparagus garden; model of aquaculture cooperatives in Dai Lam commune, Lang Giang district.      
    
First Vice Chairman of Bac Giang Farmers’ Union, Mr. La Van Doan said: After 3 years of implementing the project, Bac Giang farmers are very active in joining the Club Farmers with the internet, interested in searching and learning how to use the internet. Up to now, the whole province has 19 offline clubs farmers with internet with a total of 790 members and 19 online club farmers with internet with a total of more than 500 members. These clubs have actively shared knowledge with over 3,500 other farmer members.

First Vice Chairman of Nghe An Farmers’ Union Mr. Tran Van Huong said: Thanks to the project, the provincial Union has propagandized to farmers to be alert and aware of misrepresentations on Facebook. Mr. Tran Van Huong proposed the Management Unit after finishing the project in 2019, VNFU should issue the written report on project results and effectiveness and request the provincial People's Committee to direct the construction of the project, provide financial support to continue promoting the results of this project. Moreover, VNFU should create exchange programs, learning, visiting clubs Farmers with Internet.
