Officials and employees at the Central office of Vietnam Farmers’ Union participated in blood donation for save lives

In response to the call of General Secretary, President Nguyen Phu Trong on the occasion of Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2020, April 24, in Hanoi, Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VNFU) coordinated with National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) to organize for officials, civil servants and employees of the Union to participate in voluntary blood donation.

Volunteering to donate blood for saving lives
First Vice Chairman of Vietnam Farmers’ Union, Mr. Luong Quoc Doan said: Responding to the call of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong on the occasion of the Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign 2020, the VNFU’s Standing Committee has issued a document to promote the Union and officials and farmers' members nationwide to actively participate in blood donation. To mobilize officials and farmer members throughout the country, Vietnam Farmers’ Union in collaboration with National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion held a Voluntary Blood Donation Day with the participation of more than 200 officials, civil servants and employees of VNFU.

On this occasion, labor union members  have contributed VND 100 million in cash, send 1,500 text messages (equivalent to VND 30 million) to 1407 to support country for the prevention and control of Covid-19.
According to Standing Vice Chairman Luong Quoc Doan: With more than 10 million members, farmers participating in voluntary blood donation will be a large contribution to the nation's blood store bringing the great humanitarian significance.

“This action is both affection and responsibility of officials and members of the hierarchy of VNFU, as well as civic responsibility to the community in general, on the occasion that the whole Party, our entire people show their strength, solidarity in the prevention of Covid -19. Every official and farmer member need to express their responsibility to the community and the country from small contribution towards the country winning in Covid-19 prevention. VNFU also directed all its levels to actively mobilize and encourage officials and farmer members to participate in blood donation in the localities”- Vice Chairman Luong Quoc Doan said.

Spread to members, farmers nationwide
Youth Union of Vietnam Farmers’ Union is a large force to register to participate in voluntary blood donation. Mr. Mai Bac My – in-charge Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department, Member of Standing Committee of VNFU, Secretary of Youth Union of VNFU said: “The spread of the call for voluntary blood donation has come to each youth union member of VNFU. Most Youth Union members of VNFU are eager to participate in voluntary blood donation. This is a meaningful activity of youth union members towards the community, contributing to the valueable blood supply for emergency and preventive care for patients”.

In addition to officials, civil servants and employees of VNFU, who participated in blood donation for the first time, there are many people who have donated blood many times and still continue to participate in blood donation. Particularly, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - Officer of International Cooperation Department, Central Committee of Vietnam Farmers’ Union has participated in blood donation 3 times. Ms. Ngoc Anh said: "With the thought that a number of patients’ lives are being saved, I am really happy to give blood. I do hope that this meaningful and practical activity will continue to take place so that I can have my part in the improvement of public health".

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhu - Deputy Director of the Department of Hematology and Blood Donation, National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) said: “At present, NIHBT  is suffering from severe blood shortage due to the increasing number of patients after Tet holidays. Since there was simultaneously the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic and its ongoing complicated development, most people were afraid to come to crowded places; organizations, schools, especially universities are requested to allow students to be off school to prevent disease, therefore many blood donation schedules have been canceled. Thousands of patients have been languishing by the bedside for blood to prolong their lives.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhu added: In recent years, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has received the active cooperation of Vietnam Farmers’ Union in blood donation activities. Right after the Lunar New Year holidays, the Standing Committee of Vietnam Farmers’ Union has actively coordinated with the Institute to propagate and mobilize voluntary blood  donation to all officials, civil servants and employees of the Union.

At the launching ceremorny of blood donation campaign, more than 200 officials, civil servants and employees  at Central office of Vietnam Farmers’ Union registered to participate in blood donation. After examination and screening, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has received more than 154 safe and qualified units of blood from officials, public servants and employees of VNFU.
