VNFU presented 1,500 water tanks to farmer members

To support farmers in Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang, Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provinces in the Mekong Delta Area, who have been seriously affected by the drought, salinization and COVID-19 pandemic, in the morning of July 08, in Ben Tre, Mrs. Bui Thi Thom, Vice-Chairwoman of Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VNFU) and the officials: Mr. Mai Bac My, Member of VNFU Standing Committee, Director of International Cooperation Department; Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of VNFU Standing Committee, Director of Economic Department; Mrs. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Member of VNFU Standing Committee, Chairman of VNFU Inspection Committee presented farmers with 1,500 fresh water storage tanks.

Attending the event, on behalf of Ben Tre province leaders, there was Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Le Van Gap, Head of the Commission for Mass Mobilization of the Provincial Party Committee.

It was funded by the Medium Term Cooperation Programme between the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and farmers’ organizations in Asia-Pacific (MTCP 2 Programme) in Vietnam and some domestic enterprises.

At the event, VNFU Vice-Chairwoman Bui Thi Thom emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic had had impact on the global socio-economic development, including Vietnam. The farmers in the Mekong Delta area in particular had been also affected by prolonged drought, therefore, their lives had been extremely miserable.

“I really appreciate the activities of FUs in the Mekong Delta provinces recently, who have joined hands to support farmers overcome their difficulties. In the coming time, the local FUs need to continue mobilizing all resources to help farmers stabilize their production and lives soon ” stated Mrs. Bui Thi Thom.


Farmer members are supported with fresh water storage tanks

Mr. Le Van Gap, Head of the Commission for Mass Mobilization of the Provincial Party Committee informed that in 2020, Ben Tre province had been strongly affected by drought, salinity and COVID-19 pandemic, causing serious damages to the agricultural production with the estimated loss of over 700 billion VND. The whole province has mobilized over 174 billion VND, in which, 5,5, billion VND was mobilized by the provincial FU in order to support its farmer members.
