63.000 farmers received support for sustainable coffee plantation

This is one of the many purposes of the Workshop on Strengthening the institutional capacity for a sustainable development of coffee value chain, which was held on Feb 28th in Lam Dong by Vietnam Coffee Coordination Board (VCCB) in cooperation with Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VNFU).


 
The purpose of the workshop is to support the institution in order to develop stable coffee-growing groups of farmers and producers, promote the connection between farmers and projects, coffee enterprises and credit intitutions. At the workshop, the delegates discussed about the overview of sustainable coffee value chain development with VCCB as the connector between coffee-growing farmers and other factors in the chain; also assess the current state and development orientation for coffee in Lam Dong Province, farmer support activities for developing coffee-plantation, the pros and cons of coffee growing, processing and consuming in the area.


At the workshop, the representative of Vietnam Sustainable Agriculture Transformation Project (VnSAT) said that the unit would implement the Component of Supporting Sustainable Coffee Production in Tay Nguyen Area in general and Lam Dong Province in particular by 69,000 ha for coffee growing of 63,000 farm households (Lam Dong has about 32,000 ha of coffee growing and over 29,600 of farm households participating in this project) to carry out sustainable production process. Furthermore, the representatives of VnSAT and other units, enterprises, farmers also spoke out their difficulties and shortcomings in coffee planting, processing; put forward petitions and solutions to sustainable coffee development which are best for farmers… 
To sum up, Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan – Deputy Director of VCCB – announced that the credit for supporting coffee rejuvenation had initially helped farmers and enterprises access to capital with favourable cost. In the future, VCCB would do it best to connect farmers, groups of producers, cooperative groups, cooperatives with coffee buyers and processors; producers, processors with credit intitutions and specially support Lam Dong’s coffee products in order to achieve sustainable development through value chain, said him.
