Since Chinese potatoes are currently flooding Vietnam market and sold under the cloak of Dalat potatoes, more importantly Chinese produce is potentially unsafe, Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee has recently started to conduct a pilot project of recognition for Dalat potatoes.
As a part of the project, from 2018, Lam Dong will conduct a research on the situation of potato production and consumption, take censuses of potato production area, productivity, yield, seedlings, producers, etc. to make leaflets. The leaflet is expected to provide info, promote products, lay down regulations on package usage and guidelines for production, guidance on how to differentiate Dalat potatoes with non-Dalat originated potatoes.
In the short term, about 700 tons of potatoes originated from Dalat City and Lac Duong, Don Duong, Duc Trong District are going to be supported by the province in packaging with product recognition package. In the mean time, 530 promoting posters will also be put up at markets, stores which are selling Dalat potatoes to help consumers recognize and differentiate.
