Ninh Bình: Farmers learn how to make organic fertilizer from what the whole village threw away, for better rice growing
After the training, members and farmers in Ninh Binh province directly visited households to use probiotics to convert rice straw into microbiological fertilizers to contribute to improving rice fields.
The Ninh Binh provincial Farmers’ Union has recently organized a training on improving rice cultivation techniques following the SRI method for more than 30 members of the farmers’ professional union branches in Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district (Ninh Binh province).
In order to promote the building new countryside, developing tourism, protecting the environment movement, the Ninh Binh provincial Farmers’ Union has carried out many specific and practical activities to help its members to promote creativity and promote its roles in tourism promotion in the locality.
Training on rice cultivation techniques following the SRI method in Ninh Binh province
Specifically, at the training, the trainers shared knowledge of improved rice cultivation techniques according to SRI method; overview of the application of SRI rice cultivation methods in Vietnam; 5 principles of rice cultivation according to SRI method; technical measures of SRI, etc.
In addition, Ninh Binh provincial Farmers’ Union also instructed its members the techniques to make micro-organic fertilizers; the straw treatment method with bio-products; awareness raising among farmers, consumers and stakeholders about the benefits of SRI improved rice cultivation; etc.
Many opinions discussed and exchanged at the training on improved rice cultivation techniques according to SRI method.
Through this training, the trainees shared and exchanged experiences of their families and themselves, discussing, commenting and evaluating the efficiency of improved rice cultivation according to SRI method.
After the training, the farmer members had chance to visit directly households using probiotics to treat on the field and they will apply the SRI method directly to their rice field model in the next season.
It is known that the project aims to help mitigate the impacts of climate change and develop modern and sustainable agriculture to help farmers adapt to climate change by supporting farmers in rural areas in Vietnam.
This training is under the the project of propagating and mobilizing farmers to apply environmentally friendly rice cultivation in Vietnam funded by BRACE and implement in 8 provinces: Lai Chau, Bac Kan, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hoa. Binh, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, in which Ninh Binh will be implemented in 2 districts of Hoa Lu and Yen Khanh.
