Forest and Farm Facility (FFF): Bắc Kạn actively implements many activities to support farmer members

Implementing the work plan of the Forest and Farm Facility program Phase 2 (FFF II), the provincial Farmers' Union has just organized a training Workshop on forest development and climate change adaptation, mitigation. 

The 50 participants who are leaders of districts, communes, members of collective groups and cooperatives in the FFF project sites have been equipped by specialized agencies on issues such as: Impacts of climate change, greenhouse emissions; the role of forests in reducing CO2 and skills related to adaptation, climate change mitigation, disaster risk prevention, sustainable forest management, organic farming etc.

The participants discussed and found solutions to practice forest and farm production adaptation to climate change; building forest and farm, agricultural and forestry tourism combined, etc. models; visiting the model of agro-forestry combination at Nhu Co Youth Agricultural Cooperative, forest and farm product processing model at Vietnam MISAKI Co., Ltd in Thanh Binh Industrial Park (Cho Moi district).

Forest and Farm Facility Program (FFF) phase II has been implementing in the Bac Kan province since 2019, directly implemented by the provincial Farmers' Union. The main objective is to change the mindset and awareness of farmers in the process of economic development in agriculture and forestry. Thereby improving production capacity, actively contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. 

My Phuong, Yen Duong commune (Ba Be district) and Phuong Vien commune (Cho Don district) were selected to participate in the FFF Phase II. The project has established commune core groups and facilitators at the provincial, district and commune levels, and at the same time conducted trainings, propaganda, production and business development skills guidance, and professional improvement for FFPOs members.

 Especially, for collective groups, cooperatives, forest and farm growers in the project implementation areas, they have accessed to information, good practices in agricultural and forestry production, and understand the benefits of group work to organize production in association with environmental protection.

 After more than one year of implementation, the success of the Project is that farmers have focused on connecting with each other, linking with cooperatives and businesses to build production value chains.

The members of collective groups and cooperatives participating in the Program knew how to access and promote products at stores, supermarkets, and fairs; building product brands in the market such as: Bao Thai rice, Japonica rice of Hoan Thanh Cooperative; Brocade weaving products, bamboo and rattan crafts, Nep Tai rice, forest bitter melon of Yen Duong Cooperative; fragrant squash, kitchen sausage, kitchen pork of Nhung Luy Cooperative, etc.

The Bac Kan Farmers' Union has coordinated with the FFF Project Management Board of the Vietnam Farmers' Union to organize a survey the current status of production, trading and processing of agricultural and forestry products of FFPOs in 03 communes implementing the program and at the same time sent 55 staffs and members of the collective groups, cooperatives (FFPO), local leaders to participate in training workshop on facilitation skills and market analysis and development methods, communication skills, program planning meeting, project writing skills organized by the VNFU-FFF project management board.

Implementing the FFF Program in the province, mechanisms and policies related to FFPOs have been promoted more favorably; increased entrepreneurship, access to markets and finance through an equitable value chain and business development services within FFPOs; improved delivery of landscape-scale mitigation, adaptation and resilience for climate change through improved environmental technical knowledge, direct engagement of FFPOs and integration with inclusive livelihood approaches; and improved and equitable access to social and cultural services., actively contributing to the province's socio-economic development and sustainable poverty reduction.
