VNFU - CropLife Asia: Collaboration to bring global quality plant protection products in the fields of Vietnam

Attending the meeting, there were, on CropLife Asia’s behalf, Adam Blingt – Senior Official of Government relations, Foreign Affairs director of Monsanto Asia – Africa, Mr. Kohie Sakata – President of CropLife Vietnam, General Director of Bayer Vietnam and some members of CropLife Vietnam, and on VNFU’s behalf, representatives of the leadership of International Cooperation Department, Social Department and Center for Rural Environment.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Luong Quoc Doan introduced Mr Duke Hipp to two hot issues of agricultural production in Vietnam. The first issues is that there are too many types of fertilizer, poor quality fertilizers and the spread of counterfeit fertilizer. The second issues is the wide range of plant protection products and farmers do not know how to use rationally and effectively. Fertilizers and plant protection products have made food hygience and safety a pressing issues in Vietnam today.
To help farmers use quality products, VNFU signed up with fertilizer suppliers and actively propagandize, mobilize members, farmers to produce and trade agricultural products which comply with food safety. “At the same time, the farmers have signed commitments on agricultural production to ensure hygience and food safety” said the Vice Chairman Luong Quoc Doan.
VNFU also strengthens surveillance on fertilizers and plant protection products, protecting the production of fertilizer and pesticides through petitions to the Party, the State and the Government on taxation, market management to contribute to protecting farmers, consumers, businesses and the process of agricultural production.
Mr Duke Hipp expects to work with VNFU to help farmers access to more advanced products that CropLife has implemented in many countries in the world and Southest Asia. This is a joint product of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Mr Kohie Sakata – President of CropLife Vietnam expressed his hope that VNFU will cooperate with relevant stakeholders to guide farmers to use effectively and globally proven plant protection products, to contribute to the manufacturing of products with international standards on food safety.
Vice Chairman Luong Quoc Doan affirmed that VNFU was particularly interested in the field of plant protection product management, especially illegal and counterfeit Mrugs. Therefore, creating a legal corridor for production, business and the use of fertilizers and plants protection products is the wish of VNFU, its members and farmers. VNFU and CropLife will develop a Cooperation Agreement to materialize the content of cooperation between two sides.
