In his remarks at the meeting, Chairman Luong Quoc Doan expressed his delight and warmly welcomed the Ambassador and the delegation to the headquarters of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union. The Ambassador expressed his hope that, in his new position, he would serve as a bridge to strengthen cooperation in implementing the tasks entrusted by the Parties and States of the two countries.
In response, the Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm and thoughtful welcome extended by the Vietnam Farmers’ Union. He also conveyed warm greetings from Comrade Félix Duarte Ortega, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Chairman of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), to Chairman Luong Quoc Doan.
Before assuming his duties in Vietnam, the Ambassador met and discussed with Comrade Félix Duarte Ortega immediately after his recent visit to Vietnam. Comrade Félix Duarte Ortega expressed his satisfaction with the visit and noted the warm affection extended by the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, as well as the many opportunities for cooperation between the two sides in the future.
At the meeting, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes informed that the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in Cuba had recently held its Congress in May. Delegates discussed orientations and key tasks for the upcoming term, focusing on specific programs and activities aimed at ensuring national food security in the coming years.
One of Cuba’s top priorities—both for the Revolution and the Government—is food production, in which the role of farmers in general, and of ANAP in particular, is especially important. The Cuban Government has been creating favorable conditions for farmers to increase production, reduce imports, and ensure national food security.
The Ambassador highly appreciated Vietnam’s extensive experience—particularly that of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union—in agricultural production over the years. Vietnam’s agricultural sector has not only met domestic demand but also exported to many countries in the region and around the world.
The Ambassador noted that Cuba has been pleased to welcome Vietnamese enterprises accompanying Cuban farmers in agricultural production and applying high-yield crop varieties, especially rice. The cooperation project between Vietnam and Cuba in rice production and aquaculture has begun to deliver effective results.
The combination of high-quality rice varieties and advanced cultivation techniques has been the key factor enabling producers to initially achieve yields of 7–8 tons per hectare—double the average yields of many traditional rice varieties in Cuba. The Ambassador expressed his hope that, in the coming time, the two countries would continue to strengthen cooperation with the participation of Vietnamese enterprises to expand this model to other crops and localities in Cuba.
“Vietnam–Cuba agricultural cooperation contributes to enhancing Cuba’s agricultural production capacity and gradually reducing its dependence on imported food and agricultural products,” the Ambassador affirmed.
During this visit, on behalf of the Cuban people, leadership, and the Cuban Small Farmers Union, the Ambassador also extended congratulations to Chairman Luong Quoc Doan on the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union.
During the working session, Chairman Luong Quoc Doan expressed his deep gratitude for the affection that the Cuban people have shown for the Vietnamese people during difficult periods. He also expressed his hope that the relationship between the two countries would continue to grow stronger and closer. Chairman Luong Quoc Doan affirmed that the Vietnamese people in general, and the Vietnam Farmers’ Union in particular, always stand ready to support and accompany the Cuban people in national development.
Sharing at the meeting, Chairman Luong Quoc Doan noted that, given Cuba’s conditions, climate, and soil composition, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union hopes to cooperate and share experience with Cuban farmers in household economic development. “This is a successful model in Vietnam during the renewal process and economic development, contributing to ensuring food security and agricultural growth,” he emphasized.
At the end of the working session, Chairman Luong Quoc Doan extended his best wishes to the Ambassador for a highly successful term in Vietnam, continuing to serve as a strong bridge contributing to the strengthening and development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba. Chairman Luong Quoc Doan also conveyed his wishes for good health and solidarity to the leadership of ANAP, along with his wishes for the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba to continue growing stronger.
