Kien Giang Farmers' Union organized training on communication skills for Farmers' Union officials and core farmers

(VNFU Portal) - Recently, in Rach Gia city, Oxfam in Vietnam and the Project Management Unit of the project “Promoting decent work for female farmers and workers in Vietnam’ shrimp and rice value chains” under Vietnam Farmers' Union in collaboration with Kien Giang provincial Farmers' Union organized a training course on "Communication skills: Writing stories of change and taking photos" for Farmers' Union officials, members of farmers’ groups.
Overview of the training class
Attended the training there was 35 trainees, who were focal officials of the Farmers' Union at the provincial, district and commune levels; representatives of farmers’ groups, cooperative groups/cooperatives participating in the project; communication officers, and officials in charge of the supervision of the implementation of the project's livelihood models in the locality. Among these, more than 50% of the trainees were female who are officials of the Farmers' Union at all levels and core farmers.
The training course aims to support trainees, especially female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers, to grasp the basic principles of communication and photography to meet the requirements of the project; equip them with knowledge and skills to write stories about changes which will be served as materials for monitoring and evaluation report; practice photography skills to take photos of project activities... In addition, trainees also went on field trips, practice taking photos and collecting information at the professional group and branch at Van Thanh hamlet, Tho Son commune, Hon Dat district.
The training course is implemented according to the work plan of the project “Promoting decent work for female farmers and workers in Vietnam’ shrimp and rice value chains”. The project is implemented by Vietnam Farmers' Union for the period of 2022 - 2026 in 5 provinces, including: Ca Mau, An Giang, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu.
The project's goal by 2026 is to help 16,800 female farmers and seasonal agricultural workers in the shrimp and rice value chain in the Mekong Delta to improve their capacity to access jobs, maintain sustainable livelihoods and adequate social security, contributing to gender equality.
