Nam Dinh province: Farmers at all levels effectively implement the movement "Farmers compete in best production and business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty"

(VNFU portal) – In order to promote the movement "Farmers compete in best production and business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty", from the start of the year, Standing Committee of Provincial Farmers’ Union issued instructions for all levels of the Farmers’ Union to organize and implement the establishment of the Club of “Farmers good at production and business” in Nam Dinh province; plan to organize conferences to compliment outstanding models of all levels and summarize the movement "Farmers compete in best production and business”, period 2020 – 2025.

Farmers' Unions (FU) at all levels launched, propagated, and mobilized 246,873 households at all levels to register for the title of “Good production and business”; mobilized farmers to change the structure of crops and livestock towards improving productivity, quality and efficiency of commodity products; introduced and nominated farmer members to participate in the honoring ceremonies of "Scientist of Farmers" at the fifth time; "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers in 2024"; "Typical Agricultural Cooperatives" in 2024.

As a result, Luong Van Truong, a FU’s member – living at Hamlet 8, Nghia Trung Commune, Nghia Hung District won the Second National Prize in the field of Cultivation - Biology - Environment with Innovative technique of producing pre-germinated rice seed; Tan Khanh Production & Trade Cooperative at Tan Khanh Commune (previously named Minh Tan Commune), Vu Ban District is one of 63 typical agricultural cooperatives; FU’s Member Dinh Van Thuan – living at Nam Chau Hamlet, Hai Dong Commune, Hai Hau District was honored as "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer in 2024" with the model of integrated farm and raising swiftlets.

Farmers' Unions at all levels mobilize farmers to actively fulfill the criteria for building advanced new-styled rural areas and model new-styled rural areas in accordance with the spirit of Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee (term XX).

The Provincial Farmers' Union promotes leadership and direction for 100% of the Union's grassroots units to maintain and undertake specific tasks for building advanced and sustainable new-styled rural areas such as: building a model for classifying household waste into organic fertilizer; a model for collecting pesticide packaging; a model for exemplary garden, etc.

In addition, the Provincial Farmers' Union organized the launching ceremony of "Tree planting festival in forever remembrance of Uncle Ho" in Nam Loi commune, Nam Truc district and planted "Farmer's tree rows" in the spring of Giap Thin 2024; Farmers' Unions at district and citie levels organized the launching ceremony to plant nearly 9,000 new shade trees on the main roads of villages and hamlets.

Farmers' Unions at all levels continued to take care of 209 rows of trees planted by farmers in 2023, contributing to the creation of green spaces, environmental protection, and the development of advanced, exemplary new rural areas. Additionally, 14 conferences were held to promote, train, and improve knowledge and skills for nearly 2,024 officials, members, and farmers in implementing the national target program for new rural development in 2024.

Expanding the model of "Collecting, Sorting and Processing Organic Waste into Fertilizer at Household Level,", the provincial Farmers' Union has propagandized, mobilized officials, members and the public to effectively classify and process organic waste at home, thereby contributing to rural environmental protection.

 

The provincial Farmers' Union has implemented the project "Supporting the development of pilot models for Farmers' Unions in waste classification, collection, and transport in Rural Areas" in Truc Thang Commune, Truc Ninh District, with the participation of 2,884 member households. As of now, 100% of units and 70% of FU branches have engaged in organic waste collection, classification, and processing into fertilizer at the household level.

Farmers' Unions at all levels continues to effectively implement Directive No. 17-CT/TW, issued on October 21, 2022 by the Party Secretariat on strengthening food security and safety in the new context. They have organized propaganda, mobilization to encourage officials, members to support food safety initiatives. As a result, 291,882 members involved in agricultural production, processing, and consumption have committed to ensuring food safety.

To implement Action Month on Food Safety 2024 with the theme "Continuing to Ensure Food Security and Safety in the New Context," the provincial Farmers' Union coordinated with the Food Safety and Hygiene Sub-Department to organize six conferences on propaganda for 540 officials and members across three districts: Hai Hau, Xuan Truong, and Truc Ninh.

The Farmers' Union at all levels continues to mobilize its members to participate into health insurance and social insurance. As of November 1, 2024, 307,998 members have been mobilized to enroll in health insurance, and 1,519 members have joined social insurance through the Union's organization.

These efforts have significantly contributed to the development of advanced and exemplary new rural areas in the province. To date, 156 out of 161 communes and towns (96.9%) have met the criteria for advanced new rural areas, while 41 out of 146 communes (28%) have been recognized as exemplary new rural areas. Additionally, six towns have met the smart urban standards, exceeding the targets set by Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU. Giao Thuy District was officially recognized by the Prime Minister as an advanced new rural district in 2023.

Furthermore, the Farmers' Union has focused on guiding and supporting members in participating in developing various collective economic models in agriculture and rural development, cooperative groups and cooperatives applying high technologies, digitalization.

The Standing Committee of the provincial Farmers' Union advised the provincial People's Committee to issue Plan No. 57/KH-UBND on April 3, 2024, to implement Decision No. 182/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister, approving the project "Vietnam Farmers' Union participates in the development of collective economy in agriculture until 2030" in Nam Dinh province in 2024.

 

This plan sets specific goals for 2025 and 2030, focusing on propaganda, training, knowledge improvement and mobilization of farmers to actively engage in the development of collective economy in agriculture. It also aims to strengthen and improve the quality and effectiveness of cooperative groups and agricultural cooperatives established with the guidance and support of the Farmers' Union.

The provincial Farmers' Union has developed a budget estimate for implementing the plan, receiving an allocation of 500 million VND from the Provincial People's Committee for execution in the second half of 2024. The union has conducted ten training courses on legal knowledge of collective economy for 1,500 officials, farmer member; supported value chain production models and the application of information technology for members of agricultural cooperatives, cooperative groups, and professional farmers’ group and branches.

The executive committee of provincial Farmers’ Union for the term of 2023-2028 has issued the resolution on "Promoting, Guiding, and Supporting Farmers in Entrepreneurship and Digital Transformation in Agriculture for the 2024–2028 Period". The union has actively assisted members in installing, activating, and using the Vietnam Farmers' digital platform. As of November 20, 2024, the province has registered 117,665 accounts on this platform, achieving 128.6% of the target set by Vietnam Farmers' Union.

The district and city Farmers' Unions have focused on advising and assisting members in replication of effective economic development models. In the past year, they have established 4 cooperatives, 12 cooperative groups, 15 farmers' professional branches and 42 groups. Currently, the province has 18 cooperatives with 203 members, 196 cooperative groups with 2,979 members, 45 farmers' professional branches with 748 members, and 159 farmers' professional groups with 1,939 members.

The Farmers' Union continues to instruct farmer members in developing new agricultural models, associated models, cooperatives engaged in the value chain. The union has mobilized members to establish 459 "Large Field" models covering a total area of 21,037 hectares, of which 4,000 hectares are under contract farming.

Looking ahead, the Provincial Farmers' Union will continue mobilizing members to actively participate in the province-wide "Building New Rural Areas Together" movement. This effort will integrate national target programs and other projects currently being implemented in rural areas to attract investment and resources for farmers.
