The Vietnam Farmers' Union at central level and People's Committee of Hau Giang Province discuss organizing the 6th Mekong Delta Rice Festival

On the morning of June 8, the Delegation of the Farmers' Union (FU) at the central level, which was led by Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, VNFU Vice Chairwoman, worked with the Permanent  Committee of Hau Giang ProvincePeople'sCommittee to exchange relevant contents about organizing the 6th Mekong Delta Rice Festival in Hau Giang Province in 2023.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Member of the Provincial Standing Party Committee, the First Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province, received and worked with theDelegation of the FU at the central level. Attending the meeting were also the relevant VNFU Departments; Departments and Units of Hau Giang province  and Hau Giang FU.


The Rice Festival will be held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Hau Giang province (January 1, 2004–January 1, 2024) in order to promote high-quality rice production, develop the rice value chain, step by step toward organic rice production, consider green growth as the basis, ensure food security and safety, and adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta. In addition, the Rice Festival would contribute to promoting trade in agriculture, farmers, and rural development; support businesses and farmers to operate effectively; and help Vietnam's rice industry, as well as geographically indicated agricultural brands, increase their competitiveness in the international market.


"The 6th Vietnam Rice Festival in Hau Giang Province2023" with the theme "Vietnamese rice linked with green growth", is scheduled to take place from December 13 to 15, 2023, at Hoa Binh Square,Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province.


According to the draft Plan of the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province, there will be the following activities during the Festival: Exhibition of industrial, agricultural, and commercial achievements in the Mekong Delta; Workshop on Rice production linked with green growth in the Mekong Delta; Conference on Connecting the supply and demand of the rice market; Seminar on Rice production in Hau Giang Province to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its establishment and development; Rice Road; the ceremony of setting a Vietnamese record for rice products. It is expected to have more than 500 booths participating in the Festival to introduce and display OCOP products and dishes made with rice.


At the meeting, in addition to comments from VNFU Departments and Units,  Departments and Units of Hau Giang province  and Hau Giang FU., representatives of the Rice Festival consultancy organization also proposed the plan, which includes programs and activities of the festival, to the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province and the FU at the central level to consider and comment on.


Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van agreed with the Draft Plan to organize the 6th Rice Festival in Hau Giang Province in 2023. She suggested that the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province should consider collaborating to promote tourism and local culture with the Festival's program; at the same time, the promotion of the Festival should be strengthened. In the Festival activities, it is necessary to have creative and unique events that create a highlight for the province compared to the previously organized provinces.


Concluding the meeting, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province, received comments from the FU at the central level. At the same time, he also suggested that the Hau Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development supplement the recommendations and consider the suggestions of the Festival consultancy units in order to unify the name and main activities of the Festival. The Chairman of the Hau Giang Provincial Farmers' Union is in charge of studying the content to organize an appropriate competition to replace the Mekong Delta Farmers Competition, which is scheduled to be held at the Festival. After the plan is approved, Hau Giang Province will focus on promoting communication and dissemination. The festival is expected to be held before December 20, 2023.
